Dr Catriona Downie is an Ocular Oncologist, Oculoplastic and Lacrimal Surgeon and General Ophthalmologist (MED0001867779).

Dr Catriona Downie is a consultant ophthalmologist with subspeciality training in oculoplastic and lacrimal surgery, ocular oncology and cataract.

She graduated in Medicine from the University of Newcastle with Distinction, and completed a Masters Degree in Clinical Epidemiology at the University of Sydney.

She completed Ophthalmology training at the Sydney Eye Hospital, where she was the Professorial Senior Registrar. At  Liverpool and Royal Prince Alfred Hospitals, she was the Senior Registrar and gained extensive experience in the management of patients with complex medical and surgical eye conditions.

Dr Downie completed a Fellowship  in Oculoplastic, Lacrimal, and Cataract surgery at St Thomas’ Hospital, London where she gained experience in periocular reconstruction following Mohs excision of skin cancers, and complex cataract.

Dr Downie  then completed a prestigious Fellowship in Ocular Oncology at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London, the preeminent centre for ocular oncology in Europe. She  gained expertise in managing ocular surface cancers, and intraocular tumours, including melanoma, naevi, vascular tumours and retinoblastomas.

Dr Downie is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (RANZCO). She has published in the peer-reviewed medical literature and has presented at national and international conferences. She is committed to teaching and research, and is involved in the registrar training program with the Sydney Eye Hospital.

She is a consultant oculoplastic surgeon at the Sydney Eye Hospital, and an active member of the NSW Ocular Oncology and the Australia and New Zealand Retinoblastoma Multidisciplinary Teams.
