Dr McDonald is an ophthalmic surgeon and specialises in cornea diseases, cataract and general ophthalmology.
Dr McDonald is a specialist corneal, cataract and refractive surgeon. Dr McDonald was awarded first class Honours in Science from the University of Melbourne and later graduated with Honours upon completion of his medical degree at the University of Newcastle. He undertook ophthalmic training at Sydney Eye Hospital and was made a fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists in 2011. In 2012 he moved to London to take up a fellowship in oculoplastics and anterior segment surgery at St Thomas’ hospital, after which he moved to the renowned Moorfields Eye Hospital to further his training in corneal and refractive surgery.
Upon completion of his ophthalmic training, Dr McDonald was granted a public hospital appointment at Sydney Eye Hospital, where he both consults and operates.
Dr McDonald holds academic appointments at both Sydney University and Notre Dame University.
Dr McDonald has published papers in a number of international journals, including recent studies into the long-term stability of refractive surgery and the treatment of keratoconus. Dr McDonald enjoys the diversity of maintaining a general ophthalmic practice and has broad surgical expertise. He is skilled in corneal and anterior segment surgery, but has a particular interest in refractive surgery, complex cataract surgery and corneal transplantation.
