Michael Giblin

Dr Michael Giblin specialises in Cataract Surgery & Ocular Oncology

After graduating in medicine, with Honours, from Sydney University, Dr Giblin underwent general ophthalmology training at Sydney Eye Hospital. He subsequently spent two years working as an ophthalmic surgeon in Hamburg and Cambridge. A third year was spent in Philadelphia undertaking fellowship studies in Ocular Oncology, such that, upon return to Australia in late 1987, he was the first ophthalmologist in Australia to have undergone formal fellowship training in eye cancer, with a subspecialty of eye melanomas remaining  his focus of interest.

Dr Giblin is a key member of Chatswood Eye Specialists . He is chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee of Chatswood Private Hospital which is situated immediately below the Chatswood Eye Specialists new rooms in Albert Avenue in Chatswood. He is also a Visiting Medical Officer at Sydney Eye Hospital where he is currently the chairman of the medical staff council. He is a Senior Lecturer in medicine at Sydney University.

He is a past secretary of the International Society of Ocular Oncology, a post which he held from the inception of the Society in 2001, until 2007. From 2008 until 2015 he served as chairman of the Membership Committee of that society. He was the convenor of the 18th biennial conference of the International Society of Ocular Oncology  held in Sydney in March, 2017.

Dr Giblin is the inaugural president of the Asia Pacific Society of Ocular Oncology and Pathology.
